No New Yorker should have to live on the streets, in the parks, or on the subways.

Street Homeless Advocacy Project (SHAP) is an all-volunteer initiative consisting of concerned residents, including students, formerly homeless people, social workers, lawyers, and individuals from all walks of life.

We venture into New York City’s public spaces regularly and learn about the homeless: who they are, why they are homeless, and what they need to do to voluntarily leave the streets for safer, more humane alternatives.

The viable options offered by SHAP’s outreach include stabilization beds, safe havens, and welcome center placements that can lead to independent and supportive housing.

Join our neighborhood-based volunteer teams to conduct outreach with unhoused New Yorkers.
